Lesson generalization:

Final y words and suffixes

If the letter before the final y of a word is a vowel, do not change the y before adding the suffix.

If the letter before the final y is a consonant, change the y to i before you add any suffix except ing.

The y never changes before ing.

 

holidays     sprayed  --------> do not change the y

replied    copied --------> change the y to i and add suffix

steadying -------> don't change the y with ing
